Settings overview

Account vs Church settings, admin access, and recommended setup order.

Learn how WorshipDeck settings are organized, which tabs require church admin access, and the recommended order to set up a new church.

Quick start

  1. Open Settings from the user menu in the header (or go to /settings).
  2. Notice the two groups: Account (profile, security, appearance, Bible) and Church (admin-only tabs). On a wide screen they appear in the left nav; on a phone, tap the current page name at the top to open the same list.
  3. If you are a church admin, start with General to set your church name and preferred Bibles.
  4. Invite your team under Members, then create Ministries if you need custom groups.
  5. Set up Screens and Screen layouts before your first live service.
  6. Connect Integrations only when you need external data.

You should now know which settings tab to open for each setup task.

Deep dive

Account vs Church settings

Account settings are available to every member:

  • Profile — name, email, avatar
  • Security — password and connected accounts
  • Appearance — theme and color palette
  • Bible — your personal default translation for scripture inserts and AI

These are self-service and do not require admin access. Profile, security, and appearance are straightforward in the UI; see Preferred Bible translation for how personal defaults work.

Church settings configure your whole organization. Every tab under the Church group requires the Admin role. Non-admins who open a Church tab see an admins-only message.

Admin-only gate

Only members with the Admin role can edit Church settings. If you need access, ask an existing church admin to change your role under Members.

Admins can manage billing, integrations, screens, and team membership. Members can use WorshipDeck content but cannot change church-wide configuration.

For a church setting up WorshipDeck for the first time, start with the tracked checklist:

  1. Getting started — open Get ready and complete the recommended checklist
  2. Church general settings — name, denomination, Bibles
  3. Ministries — create groups (or use the default ministry)
  4. Members — invite your worship and tech teams
  5. Screens — register physical displays
  6. Screen layouts — define what each screen shows
  7. Integrations — connect Planning Center, calendars, or cloud storage as needed
  8. Media AI, Usage and limits, Billing — when you enable AI or need plan details

After setup, move to Presenting overview to run your first live service.

Screens: admin setup vs present mode

Screens and Screen layouts cover admin setup — creating screens, pairing displays, and designing templates.

For operator use during a service — opening outputs, choosing layouts while live — see Screens and layouts and Outputs and displays.

Tips

  • Complete screens and members early — they unblock most Sunday workflows.
  • Create ministries before sending invites; every member needs at least one ministry.
  • You do not need every integration on day one. Connect providers when you have a concrete use case.
  • Church admins should bookmark Usage and limits to watch AI and sync consumption.
  • Account tabs (profile, security, appearance, Bible) are personal — each team member manages their own.

Troubleshooting

I do not see Church settings tabs

  • Confirm your role is Admin under Members (ask another admin to promote you).
  • Church tabs are hidden for non-admin members.

/settings opens Profile, not a church overview

  • That is expected — /settings redirects to your profile. Use the left nav (or the page picker on a phone) to jump to any Church tab.

Where do I go after setup?
