Create and manage themes

Quick start

1. Open Themes from the sidebar (/presentation-themes).
2. Click New theme, enter a Theme name, and optionally change Category.
3. Choose a color, image, or video in Background. For an image, choose one for each screen shape you use.
4. Set the font, text sizes and colors, alignment, and chord styling.
5. Use Preview to check Wide (16:9), Vertical (9:16), and Classic (4:3).
6. Click Save, then apply the theme from Change theme in a presentation editor.

You should see the custom theme in the Themes library and in presentation theme pickers.

Deep dive

Browse the theme library

The Themes library contains:

• Built-in themes supplied by WorshipDeck
• Custom themes created for your church

Use Popular, All, or a category to filter the grid. Search themes matches theme names.

Built-in themes are read-only. Click Duplicate to create an editable custom copy. For a custom theme, use Edit, Duplicate, or Delete.

Create or edit a theme

Click New theme to start with the default styling. A Theme name is required; Category controls where the theme appears in category filters.

The editor is split into controls and a live Preview. Changes stay in the editor until you click Save.

Backgrounds for each screen shape

A theme can use a color or gradient, image backgrounds, or a video background.

• Color or gradient — use the Background picker.
• Image — click Choose image, then choose or replace an image separately for Wide (16:9), Vertical (9:16), and Classic (4:3).
• Video — click Choose video to use a church media video.
• Reset to color — removes the image or video background and restores the default color background.

Use an image for every screen shape your church presents. If a shape has No image, that shape falls back rather than reusing a mismatched crop.

Typography and colors

Under Typography, set:

• Font family and body font size
• Title size, Heading size, Body size, and Caption size
• Text color, Heading color, Accent color, and Muted color
• Text alignment: Left, Center, or Right

These values become presentation-wide defaults. Individual slide elements can still override their own styling.

Chord styling

Use Chord styling to set the default appearance for chords in worship presentations. Check the sample slide in Preview before saving.

Preview screen shapes

The preview selector does not change a presentation's screen shape. It only shows how this theme renders at Wide (16:9), Vertical (9:16), or Classic (4:3).

To change a deck's screen shape, open that presentation and use Settings. See Themes, backgrounds, and audio.

Apply a theme to a presentation

Creating or editing a theme does not automatically update a deck.

1. Open the presentation editor.
2. Click Change theme.
3. Find the theme under its category or with Search themes.
4. Click the theme to preview it.
5. Click Apply theme.

You can also use Customize themes at the bottom of the theme panel to return to the Themes library.

Delete a custom theme

Only custom themes can be deleted. When you confirm Delete, the theme is removed. Presentations that still reference it fall back to the default theme.

Duplicate a theme before making major changes when you may need the old design again.

Tips

• Duplicate a built-in theme when you want a reliable starting point.
• Use clear names such as Sunday Modern or Youth Vertical.
• Add background images for all three screen shapes before using one theme across projectors and portrait displays.
• Preview chord styling with the sample worship slide, not only regular text.
• Apply the theme to a test presentation before changing decks used in a live service.

[!note] A theme supplies presentation-wide defaults. Slide background and element styling in the presentation editor can override those defaults.

Troubleshooting

I cannot edit a built-in theme

• Built-in themes are read-only. Return to Themes and click Duplicate, then edit the custom copy.

Save is disabled

• Enter a Theme name. The save action stays disabled when the name is empty.

My theme does not appear on a presentation

• Save the theme first.
• In the presentation editor, click Change theme, search for the saved name, select it, and click Apply theme.

The background is wrong on a portrait or classic display

• Edit the theme and check the matching screen shape under the image background.
• Choose an image for Vertical (9:16) or Classic (4:3) instead of relying only on the wide image.

A presentation changed after I deleted its theme

• Presentations that reference a deleted theme fall back to the default theme. Apply another saved theme from the presentation editor.
